I have a G-Shock watch. I like it for its simplicity and battery life. It provides me with notifications and basic stuff, like timer and... I actually don't really use it for anything else. But the brand itself is absurdly lazy. Collectors are ready to spend thousands of moneys on the same fucking watch they already own, but in another colour or with another strap. And the new models Casio releases don't do anything new. They are the same watch, but with some slight differences. Or they can mix together different functionality from different watches from their past lineups. This is insane. These guys just combine this and that and, voilà, another happy customer willing to buy a brand new, already obsolete piece of junk.
I learnt that they do the same with the Fjällräven Kånken backpacks. They look cool, and the surrounding marketing is stylish. But as a bag they are just shit. Their side pockets can't fit normal water bottles, their design has never been reviewed to catch up with new requirements, like carrying a laptop around. They just don't give a fuck. They even have additional bottle pockets for their tiny ass pockets, so people can fit their bottles. What the hell?! I saw their new model, Tree. Well, relatively new. And my first thought was, well, now they have reviewed this issue, and it now probably has proper side pockets. But no! Same sized pockets! This is insane. They can probably say something about traditions, perfect design, whatever. But I see it as a way to just make people spend more money on their stuff. They even sell strap pads and chest buckles separately. And they state that they care about sustainability. This is a fucking joke. I watched a video of a guy comparing their >$100 bag with a ~$30 knock-off. And to the surprise of that guy, the knock-off wasn't worse in terms of practicality. So much for the quality.
So, I guess, next time you think that a higher price gets you better quality, you better do some research before you buy that amazing product.
