After my not so great experience with Mastodon I believe that true decentralisation and free communication are possible only when each actor is a server. Basically the same case as if you host a Mastodon server, but you are the only user. You can, of course, host it, but it feels like overkill to host such a capable thing just for a sole user.

But today in the HN discussion I learnt about GoToSocial. And it might be exactly what I was looking for.

I guess I'll give it a wait and try it at some point. Having a microblog is nice, but I miss following interesting people.
