One of the most stupid questions an HR can come up with is "What's your motivation to join our company?".
I don't think I'm gonna miscalculate here a lot if I say that 99% of people are simply OK with doing the job and getting paid for it. It's such a delusional way to look at your business, as if it's a fucking blessing to the world. Business is about making money, profiting. It's not about everybody in the company achieving self-fulfillment. Nobody gives a fuck if you are truly happy. Yeah, they will try to make you as happy as they can, but they are not going to allow you to spend half of the week cycling or doing woodwork, because obviously you are there to make the company's profit, not to find your inner self. Oh, wait, so you don’t like programming? I do, but coding for money in the majority of cases means doing any kind of extremely boring shit. Maintenance, refactoring, implementing the new style for that CTA for the 100th time, because we really need people to click it more, and we see the potential there.
Dammit. And it’s never ending bullshitting from both sides. Applicants come up with amazing stories about how they are captivated by the company’s work, the HRs telling how they value this and that. Fuck me. Just give me a nice environment with people that can tolerate each other on a level where they can work productively and that will be enough for a good start.
I have only one example when the company/team did what I'm really into: doing creative shit, experimenting. This is not what business usually needs. Experiments do not bring you money, they are actually a privilege.
Anyway. HRs are just like real estate agents, a shitton of bullshit and you either go with it or fuck off.
